6 Factors for an Inclusive Work Environment
Implementing the following six factors leads to an inclusive work environment:
1. Company Leadership: The commitment of company leadership is the primary prerequisite. Company leadership serves as a role model and thus bears the greatest responsibility. The company culture is inclusive.
2. Workplace: The workplace should be made barrier-free for people with impairments or disabilities. Barriers can particularly arise at the physical and sensory levels.
3. Human Resources Management: Barrier-free human resources management enables greater equal opportunities in the job market. Care must be taken not to discriminate against people with impairments or disabilities during recruitment, and to ensure that no disadvantages arise due to work processes and content.
4. Leadership Style: The personal motivation of the leader to promote diversity is essential. For this, leaders need information that fosters understanding of impairments or disabilities and promotes positive attitudes towards people with disabilities.
5. Team Culture: The team is central to the employment of people with impairments or disabilities. Team colleagues support the social integration and advancement of people with disabilities in the workplace by conveying the company culture and collaborating daily.
6. Networks: Networks help to promote awareness for the inclusion of people with impairments or disabilities and to facilitate knowledge transfer. The networking of various individuals at different levels has a beneficial effect.
