Workplace Design
What factors must be considered when designing a workplace for individuals with an impairment?
It is important to note that this is highly individual and primarily depends on how the disability affects daily life. The more flexible and open employers are, the greater the opportunity to integrate individuals with disabilities.
Here are some important tips:
- Barrier-free Access: Is the building accessible without barriers? Are there adapted restroom facilities? Is the break room designed to be accessible to everyone? Support can be obtained from Pro Infirmis building consulting services or through the IV offices.
- Review Infrastructure: Are special technical and/or digital aids required? The IV partially covers the costs for acquiring specific software and installations.
- Psychosocial Support: Are there quiet spaces available? Is there a system for managing breaks? Are working hours flexible? Is part-time work an option? Does the entire team support these arrangements?
- Performance-Based Adjustments: Can the job be adapted to accommodate a potential reduction in output? Is it possible to delegate responsibilities or plan tasks without time pressure? Is individual support or guidance for the person ensured?
