Annual and Financial Report 2021

Excerpt from the 2022 annual report of the Profil Foundation

Sign language in the kitchen? A visually impaired employee in room service? The Schulthess Clinic in Zurich makes it possible. Two employees with disabilities currently work in inclusive workplaces, which were Profil thanks to the commitment of Ramona Urwyler, Head of Hospitality, together with Profil .

“It makes no sense to push people into the secondary labor market when their skills could be effectively utilized in the primary labor market,” says Ramona Urwyler. “Both are highly motivated and fully committed.”

Simon Copat, work integration consultant at Profil, analyzed the work processes in the room service and kitchen departments at the Schulthess Clinic. He optimized them using inclusive job design to tailor existing job profiles to the qualifications of the employees. This enabled him to bundle certain areas of responsibility and combine them into two new positions. He then searched for suitable candidates for these positions and found them: Israel Chavez, who is visually impaired, supports the room service team, and A.M., who is hearing impaired, assists the kitchen team with vegetable preparation.

However, the foundation for sustainably employing individuals with disabilities is an inclusive work environment. This includes commitment from company management, workplace adaptations, and an inclusive leadership and team culture. You can find out what this looks like in practice in our 2021 Annual Report.
