Supported Employment 50 Plus
The Project: Supported Employment 50 Plus
Profil Arbeit & Inklusion is a partner in a groundbreaking national pilot project.
The Confederation and Cantons aim to provide greater support to older job seekers. The new "Supported Employment" program is designed for individuals over 50 whose eligibility for unemployment insurance (ALV) benefits will soon expire. The goal is to help them sustainably re-establish themselves in the labor market using the "Supported Employment" method. The objective is to find a suitable job in the primary labor market as quickly as possible and to retain it permanently. Fourteen cantons across Switzerland support this program, which is running as a pilot project from 2021 until the end of 2025.
Short film by SECO about the project on YouTube:
For over 20 years, we have advised and supported individuals with health problems or disabilities who wish to work in the primary labor market. This is primarily achieved through the "Supported Employment" method. The process involves placing job seekers in suitable positions after a thorough situational analysis, and then supporting them during their onboarding and beyond with job coaching to strengthen their resources.
Supported Employment (SE) is a value-based and person-centered approach designed to guide and support individuals facing barriers to employment in securing and maintaining paid work within mainstream companies.

Why employ older staff?
- Planning Security: Older employees know their capabilities and what they want, which offers a certain level of planning security for companies. The likelihood of an older employee changing jobs after two or three years is lower, thus reducing turnover costs.
- Expert Knowledge: Older employees possess extensive experience and expert knowledge, enabling them to be valuable mentors and help train younger colleagues. They often share their knowledge generously with others, benefiting those with less experience. At the same time, older individuals can learn a great deal from their younger colleagues. A diverse age mix sustainably fosters creative and constructive collaboration within teams.
- Quality Awareness: Older employees often have a sense of sustainability, they see the bigger picture and can set priorities more effectively due to their broader and deeper perspective.
- Social Competence: Due to their extensive work and life experience, older employees tend to have a greater understanding of others and are also more adept at handling conflicts.
- Mindset: Older employees are often particularly dedicated; their work is very important to them, and the employer's interests come first.
- Network: Older employees often bring with them an extensive network, which they have built over many years through engagement in associations and networks. They are familiar with the industry representatives in their field.

Further Projects in Planning
The following projects are currently in our planning phase. We are seeking implementation and financing partners for them.
Peer Support
Profil convinced that the professional inclusion of people with health restrictions can be made even more successful with a recovery-oriented approach. The introduction of peer counseling can promote this attitude among candidates as well as among our own employees.
Employer Advisory Service: Employees with Disabilities (Diversity and Inclusion)
Diversity and inclusion are important topics for businesses today. However, when it comes to employees with disabilities, there is often a lack of knowledge regarding implementation, how to interact with affected individuals, available support, and legal frameworks. This project aims to address this gap.
